BRIEF TAMBÚ HISTORY​


TAMBÚ

Pronounced Tāam Boo. The word Tambú has several meanings in the same Papiamentu language. Tambú is the name of the drum that is used to play the music of the same name and its traditional dance also shares this name. It is the essence of a rich cultural ritual where music, dance, poetry, and spirituality come together. Tambú is an important piece of our Curaçao heritage where the roots come mainly from West Africa. It used to be and still is a cultural way of expressing how you feel and what's on your mind at the end of a year.

Chapi

Pronounced Tjāh Pee Is a metal part that was used in agriculture and plays an essential role in the sowing and harvesting process.The Chapi is also a very important music instrument in Tambú, due to its unique sound that can be heard from miles away. Each Ròm Tambú bottle has its own Chapi which can be used as a key ring to cut the seal, and harvest your next bottle.
